SerialServerTM Product Information
SerialServer is a high-performance 32-bit encapsulation of serial port functionality that is implemented as an ActiveX control for use under Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0 or higher. This makes SerialServer programmable and highly customizable.
SerialServer features:
- SerialServer is programmable from Visual Basic, Delphi, C++, and other development environments.
- Sample Visual Basic projects are included that demonstrate the power and simplicity of the programming model.
- SerialServer is multithreaded for high-performance. The receive and transmit FIFO buffers are served by separate threads so that your foreground application can execute without having to wait for characters to transmit or arrive. SerialServer allows asynchronous full-duplex operations. You can simultaneously transmit and receive entirely different streams of data.
- Received serial events (data characters, line errors and signal transistions) can optionally be timestamped to the millisecond.
- User-selectable notifications can be raised to asynchronously indicate the occurrence of various serial events, such as signal transitions, line errors, transmit FIFO threshold crossings and timeouts, and receive FIFO threshold crossings and timeouts. SerialServer supports fully event-driven applications. SerialServer can also be used in a polling environment (no asynchronous notifications).
- Handshake line status is available with each data character and handshake events that occur in the absence of data flow can also be monitored.
- The recieve and transmit FIFO sizes are programmable from 4K to 256M serial events.
- SerialServer utilizes the Windows serial drivers for exceptional stability and portability.
- SerialServer automatically calculates the nearest hardware baud rate.
- An informative display keeps you aware of events on the serial lines.
- Other controls that interoperate with SerialServer are available that allow you to create and customize you own full-blown serial communications application.
